We also have the option of trading down and taking Jones at a later pick, but I think that’s a lot less likely. With some of the flaws at rather key areas for a WR, he simply may not be the BPA when we end up picking, but that’s up to Heckert, Holmgren and Shurmur to decide. I really love this guy’s skill set and attitude, probably more so than anyone else in this draft. He’s just a very tough and physical receiver that isn’t afraid to dig in and do the dirty work, but is also a big play threat that the Browns desperately need. Tennessee without scoring a single touchdown… no complaints from Jones. It also leads me to believe that he doesn’t need to be the center of attention, and wouldn’t have that prima donna issue that seems to plague so many otherwise talented wide receivers. He was never the center of the offense at Bama but still played tremendously. I’ll stick with the BPA philosophy, and hope Heckert picks the best guy still on the board, but I just think Jones is a perfect fit WR for our team. I know I’m in the vast minority when I say this but, I’d actually rather have Julio Jones on the Browns over AJ Green. Julio Jones is still a very legitimate deep threat. He also lacks that DeSean Jackson type of speed and acceleration, but as I said before, he also has 45 pounds and 6 inches on Jackson. His route running ability is still fairly raw too, but it’s been improving. He can also lose focus when he "hears footsteps" which can be cause for some of the drops. Jones has had some real inconsistencies with his hands. Last, and probably least, he's shown he can take advantage of running opportunities too, if we keep the playbook open for some trick plays. He will also run off corners and can sell the play-action, all of which I’d love to see on the Browns. Jones still managed to collect solid yards, but also had the work ethic to develop the blocking. Having played in the Alabama system with Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson, running was a priority. My personal favorite thing about Jones is that in addition to his receiving ability, he can block with the best of them. Now, while he lacks huge top end speed and super quick burst, he still has exceptional speed for his size and will burn any DBs when he gets behind them. But he can also take advantage of any space the CB is willing to give him. This gives him the strength and power to be very good off the line and to fight off any press coverage. Julio Jones - WR - AlabamaĪt 6 foot - 4 inches and completely ripped, this guy has the ideal size and tone you want in a wide receiver.
